When I heard that Mary Meeker dropped her AI trends report this week—the first in her signature format after a five-year pause—I did what any self-respecting stats nerd would do.
I abandoned my carefully planned Wednesday and disappeared into 340 slides of data.
For those who don’t know her work, Meeker’s annual Internet Trends reports used to be the unofficial Bible of the tech world. CEOs would quote them in board meetings. VCs would base investment decisions on her insights.
And marketers like me?
We’d screenshot key slides and reference them for months.
This new report is ostensibly for the tech and investing crowd. But buried in all that data about AI capabilities and adoption rates, there are some findings that are particularly relevant to content marketers.
The landscape we’re operating in just shifted dramatically. And most of us haven’t fully grasped what that means yet.
Three key things jumped out at me from the full report, and here are my thoughts about them. I’ll be referencing slide numbers in parentheses and you can check out the source material here.
The production game has changed.
Here’s the stat that confirmed what many of us know implicitly: 75% of global CMOs are already testing or using generative AI tools for content creation (s.70).
Three-quarters. Not “considering” or “exploring”—actually using.
But the news isn’t we’re using AI. It’s that the path forward requires content process changes with expansive AI integration.
Take Yum! Brands (s.74). They’ve deployed AI platforms across tens of thousands of restaurants to optimize both marketing and operations. This isn’t about getting your team to use ChatGPT. It’s about rebuilding your operations around AI integration.
We’ve passed the point of discussing shared libraries of marketing prompts and custom GPTs. The job now is about truly integrating AI and rethinking processes from the ground up. Stop patching AI onto existing workflows.
The smart play? Operationalize AI for the mechanics—first drafts, social media variants, content adaptation across channels. But architect human frameworks for the strategy. Keep your team in charge of ideation, quality control, and editorial oversight. Let AI handle production; let humans handle perspective.
The authenticity bar got higher.
The report shows that 73% of users now mistake AI-generated content for human work (s.42). Visual generation has become virtually indistinguishable from real photography. AI is a high-quality author already and will only get better.
This should terrify and excite you in equal measure.
Our production job got easier. Our differentiation job got way harder.
And when everything looks professional, what actually feels human becomes the new competitive advantage.
Your point of view matters more than ever. Your unique perspective, your values, the specific way you see and solve problems—these become the true differentiators in a world where technical execution is commoditized.
To stand out, elevate the human voices in your content mix. Let AI handle the minutiae, but make sure your subject matter experts are injecting originality, personality, and perspective into everything you publish.
Trust is becoming the scarcest resource.
As AI floods every platform with credible-looking content, your audience’s attention will become increasingly precious, and their BS detector increasingly sensitive.
They’re becoming more adept at recognizing formulaic content. They’re starting to crave authenticity, not just as a nice-to-have, but as the main thing that deserves their time.
This means your content strategy can’t just be about volume anymore. It has to be about earning trust through transparency, consistency, and genuine value.
The good news is that high-quality thought leadership will now become truly global. The opportunity of AI-assisted translation and adaptation means that anyone can reach audiences worldwide if they have the right content to share (s.47).

The landscape is tilting fast. The brands that win will be those who pair technological leverage with strategic restraint—who scale content without diluting soul, who use AI to amplify human insight rather than replace it.
Because in a world where anyone can generate content, the question isn’t whether you can produce more.
It’s whether anyone will care enough to read it.
Scale matters, but so does soul,

P.S. David Armano created a Custom GPT to help you extract insights from the report. You can use it to query the deck for specific insights you’re interested in. Give it a spin! There’s also a great piece by ZDnet that covers the broader economic, technological and societal implications of the trends in the report.

How to Write Precisely (and Pierce Through Your Readers’ Wariness)
I love the style of writing presented in this piece, and I really think that creating detailed imagery for your audience sucks readers in and draws their attention. In product copy, specificity improves the believability of your claims. Here are a few examples of specific writing in the real world to inspire your own writing.
3 Common Social Media Mistakes That We Don’t Talk About Enough
I love this piece because it focuses on the strategy behind your social media content, not the “best time to post” or other tactical BS. I want to draw your attention to the third one – I’ve been guilty of writing for people at the same knowledge level, not my end-user audience, and it’s a pattern you should be wary of!
